Memorials

A memorial that is given in memory of a loved one or friend.

Celebration of Life tree

The beautiful carved walnut memorial tree with leaves of brass hangs in the waiting area of the hospital. Colfax craftsman, Bob Gross, designed this work of art.

Gifts that live on may be expressed as:

  • In celebration of: for birth, marriage or anniversary.
  • In honor of: for someone special.
  • In memory of: for a loved one or a special friend.

Bequests

Gifts of associated property

Gifts of property which have appreciated in value, such as real estate or securities, qualify for a tax deduction for the value of the property given and, in most circumstances, avoid capital gains.

In honor of

A gift of an existing policy qualifies for a tax deduction equal to the current value of the policy. When the Foundation is designated as the beneficiary the insurance proceeds pass free of federal estate tax.

Wills or trust

A bequest to the Foundation in a will or a transfer by trust that takes effect on your death is deductible from your estate for federal estate tax purposes.

Deferred gifts

A gift made pursuant to a qualified agreement whereby you retain a life income and the remainder passes to the Foundation qualifies for an immediate income tax deduction, avoids estate taxes, and in most cases avoids capital gains tax on any appreciation in the values of the property given.
